View My Video This was tranny #3 I think. Notice how slow and easy I`m shifting. Other gears shifted smooth as silk,no matter how fast or slow I shifted. Mine always had the 1>2 crunch. 1st tranny sounded like a circular saw underneath my car. Made a horrible whinning sound. When the Nissan dealer installed it,they called me and told me upon install that it was a piece of junk. The next 2 had the 1>2 grind. Tranny #4 (current one) has been the best of the bunch. It would crunch occasionally, but not all the time. Now that I`ve had it for awhile,it`s smoothed itself out. I left the factory fill in for a few thousand miles, then tried a few different fluids. Amsoil MTG was the best one. I`ll keep in as a lifetime fill (not the same fluid fill, but the same brand). I think with Nissan trannies it`s just a hit or miss. I`ve talked to members here about getting a used tranny at one time. One guy who had several said all of his "spares" had the 1>2 gear crunch. BUT,it`s not just Nissan that has this issue. Read up online on manual transmission issues and you`ll find Mustangs,Vettes,Mazdas,Hyundais,Subarus, etc having the same issues. I feel it`s just bad quality control on the transmission manufacturers behalf. I`ve been driving manuals since the 70s and had never even heard of gear crunch before. Quality control was probably just better by leaps and bounds back then.
